The Mary Lynn Palmer Nursing Scholarship was established in loving memory of my mother, Mary Lynn Palmer, by her fellow nurse and lifelong friend, Martha Deming.
For as long as I can remember, I watched her care for people with a servant's heart. My mother never viewed nursing as simply a profession—it was God's calling on her life. Whether she was treating a patient, returning a phone call after hours, offering words of encouragement, or sitting beside someone during a difficult season of life—she genuinely cared. She believed every person deserved to be treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.
The impact she made on this community extended far beyond the walls of Bogata Health Clinic. She cared for multiple generations of families and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. Everyday, I continue to hear stories from people whose lives were touched by her kindness and dedication.
After her passing, this scholarship was established as a meaningful way to honor the legacy she left behind while encouraging future healthcare professionals to follow their own calling to serve others.
Each year, the Mary Lynn Palmer Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Rivercrest High School senior pursuing a career in nursing. While academic achievement is important, this scholarship also recognizes the qualities Mary Lynn valued most—compassion, integrity, perseverance, and a genuine desire to help others.
It is our hope that this scholarship serves as a small investment in the future of healthcare and a lasting reminder that one person can make an extraordinary difference simply by caring for others.
